The time is over when TikTok was the only platform with a vertical video feed. The feature has been copied by YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, and Snap. And now we have news of Spotify trying out the feature in their app, Discover. According to TechCrunch, it “presents a vertical feed of music videos that users can scroll through and optionally like or skip. For those who have access to the feature, it appears as a fourth tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of the Spotify app, in between Home and Search.”
The first one to spot the new video feed option was Chris Messina, who tweeted about it.
Not only that, @Spotify Discover is basically a pared down version of a TikTok-style feed of vertical music videos (likely using their canvas format) that you can like or skip.#NewSpotify pic.twitter.com/hpOEZ8v9bl

The feature, however, only uses Spotify’s existing Canvas format that was announced back in 2019. Canvas is an option for artists to create their own videos that accompany their music. For testing purposes, Spotify is only using Canvas videos in the vertical feed.
The fun and engaging TikTok format will certainly help improve user experience and will be beneficial for artists as creators, too. It is too early to say for sure, but we think the newly adopted feature is here to stay.
